AudioCodes announces end of sale

AudioCodes Mediant 1000b & Media pack – End of sale overview

Last year, AudioCodes started announcing end of sale of their media pack MP1xx series. This article will give you an overview of what media packs we are talking about and when they will go end of sale. Also, what alternatives will there be if you require analog endpoint connection points.

If you are responsible for the company’s telephony deployment, and have had needs for remote analog endpoints, or maybe connected a GSM gateway to your telephony via a BRI(ISDN2) interface, then chances are that you know what a mediapack is.

A Mediapack is a SIP to analog converter device, which is typically used if you have a need for an analog device attached to your telephony deployment. This could be a legacy fax machine, a modem, or maybe a gate phone. You can also connect analog trunks(FXO, POTS) to these devices.

End of sale, what does that mean for you as a customer?

End of sale basically means that the product line production will stop, and the devices no longer will be available on the shelf as a new product. You will still be able to get support on the products; however, this is likely to change within the next few years.

Do you need to replace all your current devices?

No. As long as you can still get support on the products, there is no need to replace them.

Mediant 1000B

AudioCodes Mediant 1000B is probably the most sold AudioCodes SBC, when wanting integration with ISDN PRI/BRI or analog, for that matter. The SBC has a flexible module-based chassis, which makes it a perfect fit for most businesses. On the other hand, it is getting old. Even though it has had a few hardware upgrades over the years, it is now considered a legacy device.

AudioCodes announced the first four modules to reach the end-of-sale status. The modules are.

If you need any of these modules for your AudioCodes Mediant 1000B SBCs, you should order them from your supplier now, as last time to buy will be June 1, 2023.

The alternative to FXS modules will be either Media pack MP-112(supports 2 analog endpoints) or the newer Mediant 500Li(Supports either 4 or 8 analog ports), or a complete replacement with a Mediant 500/800 with factory-made FXS ports.

You will need a Mediant 800 for FXO and BRI ports, or the Media packs 114/118 FXO 4/8 ports or the 2/2 – 4/4 FXS/FXO hybrid models.

Media Pack MP-118

The AudioCodes Media pack MP-118 comes in three versions.

8 port FXS
4/4 port FXS/FXO
8 port FXO

The 8-port FXS version is already end of sale, which happened on June 1, 2022. While the other two versions is still in sale, it is expected that these will go end of sale within the next year or two.

It is recommended to order the Mediant 500Li for analog endpoint support. This supports both 4 ports and 8 ports analog FXS.

Media Pack MP-114

Just like its big brother MP-118, the Media pack MP-114 is a hybrid analog gateway that comes in 3 versions.

4 port FXS
2/2 port FXS/FXO
4 port FXO

The 4 port FXS version will be the first one to go end of sale, and this will happen on June 1, 2023.

If you want to add analog endpoints to your AudioCodes SBC installation, I recommend buying the new Mediant 500Li analog gateway with the support of either 4 or 8 analog ports. The hardware is more up-to-date, which enables support for more recent firmware versions and better functionality, including up-to-date security features such as TLS 1.3.
